Short version
Drift collects anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the app. You can turn this off in Settings. All of your ballistic profiles, loads, and settings are stored on your device and — if you choose — backed up to your personal iCloud account. We have no accounts, no advertising, and no way to identify you.
What data does Drift collect?
Drift collects anonymous usage analytics through PostHog, a third-party analytics service. This includes basic events like app opens, profile creation, and solver usage — enough to understand which features are used and where people get stuck.
This data is not linked to your identity. We do not create user profiles, do not collect your name or email, and do not use advertising identifiers. PostHog assigns a random anonymous ID per installation that cannot identify you or your device across apps.
You can disable analytics entirely in Settings → Anonymous Usage Analytics. When you opt out, all buffered data is flushed and no further events are sent.
What data stays on your device?
Your rifle profiles, load data, ballistic solutions, and app settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Searches against the built-in reference database (bullets, cartridges, calibers) happen entirely on-device — search queries are never sent to a server.
iCloud Backup
If you enable iCloud Backup in Settings, Drift syncs your profiles and loads to your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. This data is stored in your iCloud storage, encrypted by Apple, and is not accessible to us. We cannot read, access, or recover your iCloud data.
iCloud Backup is optional. If you don't enable it, your data exists only on your device.
Location and weather
Drift uses your location to fetch local weather conditions (temperature, humidity) through Apple WeatherKit, and reads barometric pressure from your phone's built-in sensor. Your location is used only for this purpose, is not stored permanently, and is never sent to any service other than Apple WeatherKit. Location access requires your explicit permission and you can use Drift without it by entering conditions manually.
What if I contact support?
If you email us at support@driftballistics.com, we'll have your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use that only to respond to you. We don't add you to a mailing list or share your information.
Third-party services

- PostHog — anonymous usage analytics. Data is sent to PostHog's US servers. No personal information is included. PostHog privacy policy.
- Apple WeatherKit — weather conditions for atmospheric inputs. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.
- Apple CloudKit — optional iCloud backup of your profiles. Data is stored in your iCloud account, not ours.
Drift does not integrate with any advertising or tracking networks.
Children's privacy
Drift is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.
